What does Madrid mean to you? Culture, diversity, gastronomy, art, trends…, yes, but also communication and social harmony.

Meninas Madrid Gallery express the experience of more than sixty artists through the iconic Velázquez’s Meninas. This time, the Meninas we are talking about are not part of the royalty but glass fiber sculptures designed by the artist Antonio Azzato which are almost two meters high and can weigh up to 30 kg.

Street art proves again that we cannot find art only behind security barriers or glass cases. In this case, Madrid’s streets will become the setting of these novel pieces of art.

Alejandro Sanz, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Manolo Blahnik or Carlos Baute are only some leading personalities of the national and international scene who have participated in order to pay tribute to Madrid as a city characterised by its diversity. Each one has made its own interpretation concerning to the question ‘What does Madrid mean to you?’ and has expressed it on the sculptures we can already find in different points of the city.

For the moment, we can find eighty Meninas. The rest will be settled in the next days until July. Once the exhibition is over, the most impactful sculptures on social media will be auctioned and the funds will be used to support solidarity causes.

But remember that, although the Meninas have taken control of the city, you can also discover the Velázquez’s original painting at Museo del Prado. And we highly recommend you do.
