The Banco de España is one of the most beautiful examples of the 19th century Spanish architecture. The Banco de España was built in order to provide the National Bank with a more fitting headquarters for the important functions that it carried out, including the issue of coins and bank notes for the entire country. It is an eclectic building, in which the façades, with their classically-styled elements, stand out. They are complemented by the French-style doors and grillwork.
